Future of Texas wind farms tied to tax credit

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Developers of at least a half-dozen wind farms in South Texas counties are waiting to see if energy tax credits set to expire at the end of the year will be renewed, which would allow them to continue building their projects.

The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reported Sunday that three projects in Nueces, Kenedy and Kleberg counties would, if built, represent a 44 percent increase in the area’s wind generation capacity, with at least 200 new turbines.

Texas ranks first in the country for installed wind capacity.
